Sunday, August 21, 2005

Top Filipino shooter Jeufro Jag Lejano emerged as World Shoot Champion in the Modified Division of the recently-concluded International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) World Shooting Championship in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Philippine shooter Danny Torrevillas likewise emerged as the world champion in the Senior Category of the Production Division. Ilo-ilo based Phillipp Chua on the other hand, landed fourth place in the Revolver Standard Division.

Held last August 22 to 28, the world shoot is held only once every three years and is considered to be the Olympics of the international practical sport shooting community.

During the same event (World Shoot XIV), the Modified Division National Team fielded by the Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA) successfully defended their world shoot crown and once again became the Modified Division Team Champions. The national team was composed of Jag Lejano (Champion), Nelson Uygongco (3rd place & Shoot Off Champ), Lyndon Biraogo (5th place) and Joseph Sy (6th place).

Congressman Juan Ponce Enrile, Jr. IPSC Regional Director for the Philippine Region congratulated the national team for the successful defense of their world shoot team championship crown, as well as champion shooters Jag Lejano and Danny Torrevillas for their efforts in attaining the individual championship awards. This year?s world shoot campaign is an important milestone in the efforts of the PPSA to gain honor and recognition for the country in the international practical sport shooting arena, said Congressman Enrile. Not only has our Filipino shooters retained top team honors in the Modified Division, but for the first time in the history of the PPSA, a Filipino shooter has emerged as World Shoot Champion.

The Philippine Team delegation to the World Shoot XIV was headed by PPSA president Rommel Cabungcal and PPSA Board Members Vic Mangibin and Tintin Lazaro.
